In early 2018 Oracle launched its Challenger Series tennis tournament with events in Newport Beach and Indian Wells, California. On July 18, 2018, the company announced the addition of a third event to the series, which will be held at Chicago’s XS Tennis Village from September 2-9, 2018. To further Oracle’s commitment to American tennis, the Oracle Challenger Series will also donate $5,000 to the Chicago chapter of the National Junior Tennis and Learning network to facilitate free or low-cost tennis education programming for low-income youth.
We’re adding Challenger tournaments because American tennis players need more chances to compete at home and make a career out of the sport. Oracle also wants to improve the quality of tennis. We’re deeply committed to the sport and as part of the new event in Chicago, we’re providing assistance to create better access for Americans to play tennis.”
– Oracle CEO Mark Hurd
The Chicago event is only the latest example of Oracle’s efforts to provide amateur and aspiring professional tennis players in the United States with opportunities to improve and progress in their careers. Oracle also hosts the Oracle ITA Masters tournament in Malibu, California, and the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships in Surprise, Arizona. In addition, the company annually sponsors two $100,000 grants to assist players making the transition from the college ranks to professional tournaments.
