How Does UTR Powered by Oracle Work?

In 2018, Oracle CEO Mark Hurd became a joint owner of Universal Tennis, the company behind the UTR tennis player skill-rating system. Oracle also partnered with Universal Tennis last year to increase UTR’s use, most notably in a joint sponsorship of the Oracle ITA Summer Circuit Powered By UTR.

UTR is already changing the experience for tennis players worldwide by providing a unifying digital platform for the sport. We’re excited to partner with Universal Tennis to take this to the next level, investing our technology and marketing resources, while also featuring UTR Powered by Oracle in events and tournaments worldwide.” – Mark Hurd

Universal Tennis’ roster of partners has grown substantially since Hurd’s investment. In the last few months, the company has announced partnerships with Roger Federer’s TEAM8; John McEnroe’s Tennis Academy and his nonprofit, the Johnny Mac Tennis Project; the Rafael Nadal Academy for aspiring pro tennis players; Nike Tennis Camps operator US Sports Camps; and current World No. 1 and 14-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic, among others.

UTR Powered by Oracle currently tracks the performance of more than one million amateur and professional tennis players, from junior players in middle school to top pros like Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Naomi Osaka, and Serena Williams.

Universal Tennis describes the rating system as, “a modified Elo rating system that promotes fair and competitive play across the tennis world.” Learn more about how the system works in this five-minute video:
